From Bump to Beyond: The Leaguers, Inc. Creates a Safe Space for Expectant Mothers
At The Leaguers, Inc., care begins long before a child is born. Through its Prenatal Health Education program, the organization recently hosted a heartwarming event titled “Celebrating Pregnancy”, a special gathering dedicated to honoring and uplifting newly expectant mothers in the community.

Mothers-to-be arrived with smiles and curiosity, greeted by warm faces and a welcoming environment designed to make them feel seen, supported, and celebrated. From the moment they walked in, it was clear this was more than just an event, it was a safe space where every mother’s journey mattered.
The program focused on empowering women with knowledge and confidence as they prepare for motherhood. Health educators and caring staff led engaging discussions on prenatal care, nutrition, emotional well-being, and the importance of early bonding. Each session was thoughtfully designed to ensure that every mother left feeling informed and encouraged.
Dr. Quiera Evans, who encouraged the mothers to continue their journey of support by transitioning into the Early Head Start (EHS) program after childbirth. She emphasized how EHS provides essential resources for both mother and child, from developmental support to family services, ensuring that families continue to thrive beyond pregnancy. Dr. Evans also shared exciting news about an upcoming community baby shower that will celebrate and support over 50 mothers, further demonstrating the organization’s deep commitment to care and connection.
The highlight of the event was to educate and raise awareness about common mental health challenges experienced during pregnancy, including stress, anxiety, depression, fear, and emotional overwhelm. We emphasize the importance of emotional support, self-care, healthy communication, and the early identification of mental health concerns. Our pregnant mothers learned how mental health can affect both the mother and baby, the warning signs to look out for, and the available support systems and resources. This session also seeks to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health during pregnancy by encouraging open conversations, compassion, and community support for expecting mothers. Through education and awareness, we hope to empower women, families, and caregivers to prioritize mental wellness throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period.
But beyond the education, what truly made “Celebrating Pregnancy” special was the sense of community. Laughter echoed through the room as mothers shared their stories, asked questions, and connected with one another. For many, it was comforting to know they were not alone, that there is a network of support ready to walk alongside them every step of the way.
The event also included moments of celebration, small tokens of appreciation, uplifting words, and heartfelt encouragement that reminded each mother of her strength and the beautiful journey ahead. It was a day filled with love, learning, and lasting memories.

The My Father Is… Annual Program isn’t just an event. It’s a celebration of fathers, of presence, and of the quiet, powerful ways they shape their children’s lives. That day, classrooms transformed. Fathers shared their stories, their passions, their skills. Some spoke about building, creating, or helping others. Some demonstrated talents their children had only ever admired from afar. And everywhere, there were smiles, wide, proud smiles, on both fathers’ and children’s faces.
For many students, it was the first time seeing their fathers in this light, not just as parents, but as mentors, role models, and sources of inspiration. Eyes lit up, hands clutched proudly, and hearts swelled with love and admiration. “That’s my dad!” echoed across rooms as children introduced their fathers to friends, classmates, and teachers.
Across the 15 sites, the energy was the same, pure joy, connection, and pride. Fathers weren’t just participating; they were showing up in a way that left a lasting impression on their children. And the children, in turn, felt seen, valued, and inspired.
The My Father Is… program reminded everyone why fatherhood matters. It’s in these moments, the stories shared, the laughter, the applause, that children learn what it means to care, to lead, and to dream. It’s a day of connection, but its impact lasts far longer, echoing in the lives of the children and families who are fortunate to be part of The Leaguers Inc. community.
That day, one thing was clear: fathers’ matter. And when they show up, children rise.

Dental Screen at The Leaguers Inc. (Orange Street Site)
The Leaguers Inc. hosted a Dental Screening at the Orange Street site, providing oral dental examinations for children. The screening helped identify early dental concerns, promote healthy oral habits, and support children’s overall well-being.
