Parent, Family & Community Engagement

Raising the next generation is a shared responsibility. When families, communities, and schools work together, students are more successful, and the entire community benefits. Head Start Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (PF&CE) describes what families do at home and in the community to support their children's learning and development. It also encompasses the shared partnership and responsibility between home and school.

The Leaguers Head Start believes that the child’s needs must be addressed within the context of the total family. Our family engagement activities focus primarily on building and strengthening relationships (i.e. parent-child relationship, fostering positive communication and healthy relationships) between parents and staff, and encouraging supportive relationships between parent to parent. While some parent involvement activities may include initiatives designed to enhance the parent’s decision-making role, other activities may emphasize the parent’s role as primary educator.

Each location is encouraged to offer parent seminars and workshops that are tailored to the specific interests, characteristics, and needs of the families whose children are enrolled in the program. The Leaguers, Inc., understands the importance and makes it a priority to include father/or significant male figures in all programming geared to support their children's education and healthy development. This is done by strategically designed activities for fathers/significant male figures to participate in ways that are meaningful to them.

The Leaguers, Inc. Head Start provides a variety of opportunities for interaction with parents throughout the year. All interactions with families, whether formal or informal, are respectful of each family’s diversity and cultural and ethnic background. The following are some initiatives and services that were developed to respond to the needs of the families in our program and to highlight their strengths:

In response to our family interests:
