SHOWING UP FOR OUR CHILDREN

Sometimes, the most powerful message we can give a child is simply being there.

Today, fathers, brothers, uncles, grandfathers, and friends came together at 999 Broad Street to take part in Leaguers, Inc.’s “Dad, Take Your Child to School” initiative.

The morning was about more than getting children through the school doors. It was about male involvement, family connection, and community support.

Men from different generations and family relationships stood together to welcome and encourage children as they began their school day. Fathers were joined by brothers, uncles, grandfathers, and friends—all playing a role in showing children that the adults around them care about their education and their future.

The initiative was also joined by Councilwoman Amina Bey, who took part in the morning and shared a message about the importance of families, community, and men being actively present in the lives of children.

Councilwoman Amina Bey’s said, when we show up for our children, we are doing more than walking them to school, we are walking with them toward their future.

Today, I am proud to stand with the fathers, brothers, uncles, grandfathers, and friends who made the choice to be present. Our children need to see us, hear us, encourage them, and remind them that their dreams matter.

Education is not only about what happens inside the classroom. It is also about the support children receive from their families and their community.

To every father and every man who participated today, I say thank you. Your presence sends a powerful message to our children: You are important. You are loved. We believe in you, and we will continue to stand with you.

Let this not be just one morning. Let it become a commitment to remain involved, to mentor, to encourage, and to help our young people see what is possible.

When we invest our time in our children, we invest in the future of our entire community.”

The initiative reminds us that being present matters.

A father can walk beside his child. A grandfather can share words of encouragement. An uncle can serve as a role model. A brother can offer support. A family friend can make a child feel valued.
